Himachal Pradesh Heats Up: Rising Temperatures and Deficient Rainfall Signal a Hotter Summer Ahead

Himachal Pradesh has been experiencing warmer weather recently, with both maximum and minimum temperatures rising. Many areas, especially the mid and low hills, have seen temperatures 2-4 degrees above normal. On Friday, nine weather stations recorded temperatures of 30°C or higher, with Una reaching 36°C, which is 3.7 degrees above normal. Other notable temperatures include Dhaulakuan at 34.4°C, Bilaspur at 33°C, and Kangra at 32.5°C.

Minimum temperatures have also increased, with Kukumseri in Lahaul Spiti recording the lowest at 0.2°C. Tourist spots like Shimla and Manali have seen minimum temperatures of 12.6°C and 8.9°C, respectively, both above normal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a hotter summer with more heatwave days and less rainfall. March saw 75.5 mm of rainfall, 33% below normal, making it the 54th lowest since 1901. Kullu received the highest rainfall at 156.3 mm, while Una recorded the lowest at 17.1 mm.
